Tommy arrives home from work to find Angela waiting for him outside, and she has something to say that sparks a breakthrough in their relationship.

Tommy’s date with Angela doesn’t begin as he had hoped—in fact, she’s furious with him. There’s been a theft at Judge Pierce’s house and as far as she’s concerned, he’s responsible. As Tommy suspects, his ex-con painting buddies are involved.

Tommy returns the ring, but he’s not out of trouble. As the other ex-cons congratulate themselves on their good deed, Tommy is rejected by Angela and—adding insult to injury—soon finds himself under arrest.

Tommy’s criminal ex-associate Gray comes to his rescue, and soon Tommy seems convinced to work with him again. Tommy’s sister is appalled at the idea, and tells him so in no uncertain terms. When Ethan stops by to see him, Tommy is no longer at the house.

As Tommy leaves for the airport with Gray, he calls his sister to tell her he's headed out of town. She races to stop him, and tells him that Ethan is missing.

Acknowledging that his sister's chicanery has revealed his true hopes for his future, Tommy returns to Angela to explain how he feels about her and to invite her and Ethan over for dinner.
