Instead of training, Claire gives a delighted Chamonix a lesson in figure skating. Luke invites Claire to go with him that afternoon to try out ice-fishing, but it doesn't seem that they will get time alone together.

Out fishing on the frozen lake, some old-timers try to tell Julian about Luke’s hockey career, but Julian isn’t a great listener, and gets himself into trouble when he doesn’t listen to their fishing advice either..

As the sun sets over the mountains, Claire and Luke finally have time for a heart to heart talk. They grow closer as they compare their careers as professional athletes. Eventually, they are interrupted and have to go their separate ways, but not before arranging to meet again.

Arriving back at the clinic, Claire finds that Julian is asleep, still recovering from his back injury. Claire relaxes by the fire, and her mom arrives from an evening out with Lou. The next morning, Claire’s back out on the ice, enjoying skating with Chamonix and Luke.

Claire's fun morning with Luke and Chamonix comes to an end when Julian arrives and is upset about Claire's lack of effort in training. But today, Claire is thinking of her long-term health, and digs in her heels when Julian suggests another shot of cortisone to fix her ankle injury.

Julian can’t believe that Claire is unwilling to battle through the pain to compete at the upcoming championships. He makes his disappointment clear, both to Claire, and later to Luke, whom he accuses of distracting her from her goals.

Julian’s words seem to have sunk in, and when Claire comes to talk to Luke about her future, he tells her bluntly that she should focus on her skating. Claire is taken aback, as is Lou, who knows this isn’t how he really feels.

Claire leaves the clinic with her mom and Julian, just as Luke is on his way to see her. Julian is delighted that Claire is back in training, but her mom senses that Claire is conflicted about the decision. Chamonix and Luke face a Christmas without Claire.

As she steps onto the ice to compete at the national championships, Julian reminds Claire that this is her moment. At home, Chamonix is watching excitedly on TV, and calls in her dad to see Claire skate.

Claire achieves her dream of winning the nationals, but to Julian’s surprise, she does not want to train for the world championships. Chamonix and Luke are ready to welcome her back with open arms.
